In contrast to fragility and even to grit, antifragility is the human characteristic we must embrace in order to grow, according to Lukianoff and Haidt. Humans develop not despite of but rather as the result of overcoming challenges and adversity. That we’ve lost sight of this fact, they say, explains a lot of the new challenges facing our youth, educational institutions, and broader society.
